PC Andrew Harper murder trial jurors told to put aside emotional reaction to case

Jurors in the retrial of three teenagers accused of murdering PC Andrew Harper were today told of his "bravery" and the "intense sadness" around his death - but warned they must try the case in a "fair-minded and clear-sighted" way.

The retrial of Henry Long, 19 and Albert Bowers and Jessie Cole, both 18, began today with a judge acknowldgeing jurors may feel "admiration" for PC Harper's bravery but reminding them of their "public duty." Newlywed PC Andrew Harper, 28, was dragged along a road after trying to stop the defendants making off with a quad bike on August 15 last year, in Berkshire.

The driver, Henry Long, 19, has admitted manslaughter but denies murdering the Thames Valley Police officer. Long faces a retrial, along with Bowers
