A Birmingham mum said she had a 'mini heart attack' after receiving a £200 bill for one Zoom call.Rachael Lewis, 34, said it was the first time she had used the video conference service, which offers free calls. Two weeks after a 50-minute virtual meeting, however, she received a shocking bill from her mobile network EE which said her monthly bill had increased by £159.63.Rachael dialled into a weekly Q&A with her union, which is UK-based, from her mobile phone.
However, she found out the hard way that Zoom uses international numbers for joining calls from mobile phones, which can cost as much £4 per minute.Rachael told the Sun she is "kicking herself" and has warned others not to make the same mistake."Naturally I had a mini heart attack."I went on to my EE account and saw there was a £160 of additional call charges. "My first thought was it must be a mistake, all my calls are unlimited and I don't make overseas calls."I am horrified as money is really tight at the moment and it's a substantial amount to cough up unexpectedly.
I won't be using Zoom again."EE said Rachel had phoned an American landline instead of using her data, which is included in her monthly contract.
