MAXINE Peake has slammed television bosses for typecasting northern actors, in particular women, and says they are still being discriminated against because of their accents.
Maxine, 45, made the comments during an appearance on poet laureate Simon Armitage's BBC podcast, and said Downton Abbey was a good example - where Northerners take on the 'downstairs' roles.
The actress, who shot to fame as the straight-talking Twinkle in Victoria Wood’s 90s sitcom Dinnerladies, said: "People cast you for your accent.
