Laverne Cox roasts Republicans for spending $65million on anti-trans adverts when they could’ve bought her “a house in the Hills”
Netflix drama Orange is the New Black, used her recent appearance on The Daily Show to raise awareness of the disinformation surrounding anti-trans legislation and campaigning.During the appearance, Cox drew attention to the surge in anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation across the US, including the 25 stats that banned transgender under-18s from accessing gender-affirming care.“Thanks for making sure schools don’t teach about sexual orientation or gender identity, because pretending trans kids don’t exist means they disappear, just like pretending climate change doesn’t exist… it disappears too!,” she said, before jokingly adding, “So I guess we will never know why my tits are sweating in December.”Cox then highlighted that Donald Trump and the Republican part have spent $65 million (£49 million) on campaign ads pushing anti-trans rhetoric.Hitting back at the ads, Cox said: “Do you know how disappointing it is for someone to finally spend $65 million on me and it’s for this crap? I didn’t want hateful attack ads. I wanted a house in the Hills with six walk-in closets!”She continued: “This is straight out of the bigotry handbook, using dehumanising language on marginalised groups provides a permission structure to attack them, because, when people are rendered no longer human, you can take away their rights, [and] commit violence against them with impunity.”Cox went on to reference the ongoing legal dispute between North Carolina lieutenant governor Mark Robinson and CNN, which reported in September that the Republican left a series of disturbing comments on a pornography website before entering politics.

Bethany Joy Lenz says exec warned her ‘One Tree Hill’ was about ‘f—ing and sucking’
Dinner for Vampire.““You tell her this show is about f—ing and sucking and if she’s gonna have a problem with that, she shouldn’t come in tomorrow,” her manager said after speaking to one of the show’s execs. The actress says she and her manager were speechless at this explanation.Even with the bluntness from the exec, Lenz writes, she was attracted to the show because it “felt different from most bubble-gum TV with subliminal agendas” in her memoir.“Grit didn’t scare me, and the ‘One Tree Hill’ pilot had grit,” she continued.During this time, Lenz said, she had turned down the opportunity to star in “What I Like About You,” which went to then-teenager Amanda Bynes.Lenz, who was raised in an Evangelical Christian household, said she was worried that portraying a woman living with her boyfriend would “normalize ‘living in sin’ for young girls.”Lenz later wrote she felt comfortable with the “awkward girl next door” character, whom she viewed as the “most wholesome” member of the main cast.“I didn’t feel too at risk of being objectified,” Lenz wrote. “I believed in this show and its ability to send meaningful, uplifting messages to the audience.” Her character would go on to get pregnant, engaged and live with Nathan Scott (James Lafferty) while she was in high school.
