Guadalupe “Shorty” Ortiz was a Tejano musician known for leading Shorty and the Corvetts as well as Mariachi Corbetas.A singer and multi-instrumentalist who played guitar, bass, and keyboards, Ortiz began recording in his teens and had an early hit with “Un Ratito.” He was nominated for a Tejano Music Award for the track at age 19.
With the Corvetts, he had another hit covering the Johnny Ace blues ballad “Pledging My Love,” adding Tejano flair to make it his own.
