A heroic dad who cut his foot after jumping in a swimming pool to help a struggling child has won £9,000 in compensation. The unnamed holidaymaker was given compensation by easyJet Holidays after cutting his foot on broken swimming pool tiles.

The father, who had travelled from the UK to Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands on an easyJet package holiday, was with his family at the hotel pool when he saw a young girl getting into difficulty in the water, BristolLive reports.

After jumping in and carrying the child to her mother who was holding a baby at the time, he then noticed “a river of blood” coming from his foot. “When I jumped in and cut myself, at first I didn’t feel anything as it must have been the adrenalin kicking-in, but when I lifted my foot out there was just so much blood,” he recalled. “There was no preventative maintenance.” READ MORE: 'We could get 20 deaths tomorrow': The new super-strong drug causing panic in Piccadilly Gardens The man, who had travelled from Bristol Airport to the Oasis Dunas resort for the seven-day trip, was attended to by two hotel lifeguards who brought a first-aid kit. “I bandaged my foot myself and it was obvious that I was going to need stitches,” he said.

The hotel reception recommended a local clinic where he required 14 stitches to his foot and was also prescribed antibiotics and painkillers.
