An East Lothian driver had a miraculous escape and walked away after his car 'flipped' on a bridge. Jason Golightly, from Blindwells, walked away from the terrifying incident on the busy A1 on Wednesday evening with just a chipped tooth and sore neck.Jason was driving to his girlfriend Emilie’s house in Dunbar at around 7.50pm when vehicle smashed through a signpost.
The 19-year-old said: “I was driving towards the bridge over the River Tyne and suddenly hit some still water.“The car spun out towards the hard shoulder, over the gravel and went through a signpost.
The car then went over a few times, I was upside down at one point and just thought, this is it.”Once the car rolled back and was upright, Jason had to kick through the door as the body of the car twisted around him.
Jason's safe use of his car seatbelt most likely saved him from more severe damage, reports Edinburgh Live.He said of his lucky escape from the horrific car crash: “I honestly am ok, I don't think I even have a bruise.”Jason's crash is though to have been caused by ‘aquaplaning’, the separation between the surface of the tyre and the road created by a layer of water - and far more likely in times of heavy rain.
