Orven Schanzer has died aged 97 of respiratory arrest, his family has confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.The film editor worked alongside Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe on multiple movies at 20th Century Fox during his time in the business.He provided post production support for dozens of movies and TV shows on the network from January 1947 until he retired in February 1992 after nearly 50 years working in the industry.Orven worked on multiple famous films during his time, including a particular focus on Marilyn Monroe's famous performance of Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
He was one of the 12 editors who worked on Cleopatra in 1963 with Elizabeth Taylor and his final editing job on the Fox lot was Alien in 1979.In a 2019 interview, he recalled working at Fox, previously stating: "It was a love affair with Fox, it was so wonderful.
I'd wake up in the morning and really couldn't wait until I got to the studio." Orven, who was born on October 13, 1924, in Kasas City, Kansas, served with the US Air Force in World War II before he landed a job at Fox in the mailroom.
He was later promoted to copying scripts and later became studio chief Darryl F Zancuck's "errand boy" - three years later, he came an editor.
