It’s not that one side likes the other any more or less, it’s just that some people are more assiduous about tending the relationship; watering its roots and doing the occasional weeding.You obviously have a strong sense of duty about staying in touch with people who, in reality, are on the fringes of your life.

That’s fine, but they don’t have to be like you. They’re probably concentrating on their ‘besties’ and simply don’t feel the same need to keep regular channels of communication open with people they may be fond of but just don’t see so often.

Or maybe they just don’t have the time, Susan.I’d stop worrying about it. Call if you want; don’t if you don’t. But I certainly wouldn’t ‘test’ these friends by deliberately withholding your calls.
