Problem: Hair loss If you’ve noticed clumps of hair falling out post-Covid, you’re not alone. “Covid hair loss is real,” says leading London-based trichologist, Stephanie Sey, who specialises in diagnosing hair and scalp conditions. “Hair growth uses quite a lot of resources so it’s the body’s survival mechanism kicking in, getting rid of the hair to save itself.” Known as telogen effluvium, this type of hair loss is the result of increased numbers of hairs, which would normally be growing, going into the telogen shedding phase.
It’s pretty common following illness, giving birth or after surgery. It can also be triggered by a shock, like redundancy or divorce.
