Countdown's Susie Dent stumbled over her words after accidentally commenting on her co-star Anne Robinson's age. The pair were discussing creosote on a recent episode of the much-loved Channel 4 show, with Susie giving a long explanation about how we came to have the chemical, which is used as a wood preservative.Susie, 57, was saying she thought creosote had "the most offensive smell in the world", but Anne, 77, chimed in: "I love it.""It's the sort of smell of childhood actually," she went on.Susie then replied: "Yes, it's very old..."But she then seemed to catch herself and, stuttering slightly, started talking about Marmite and how that divided opinion too.One fan quipped of the near-miss: "Well saved Susie..

Don't call the old girl old fashioned!!!"Anne has been hosting the quiz show since June 2021 but recently confirmed that she would be leaving, saying it had been "a blast" but that she had stayed longer than she signed up for and that it was "time for an older woman to take the reins"."I hope too I've encouraged TV bosses to realise that not all women at the wrong end of their seventies are in care homes playing bingo and watching conjuring tricks," she said in a statement."In fact, the genius of Countdown is that it's a brilliant way to keep the brain exercised."It has since been confirmed that BBC Radio DJ Colin Murray, 45, is stepping in as a guest presenter.Colin - who has been a guest host of the show in the past - is thought to have started shooting episodes of the show. However, fans of Anne can relax as she will still be seen in episodes of the Countdown until the summer.
