Champion dancer, 17, dies as lockdown stops her travelling for genetic disease treatment

A 17-year-old Russian dance champion has tragically died during the coronavirus lockdown after restrictions left her unable to travel abroad for treatment.

Victoria Kurepina passed away in her home city of Tver in the western Russian region of Tver Oblast after she was struck with an undiagnosed genetic disease.

It left the dancer in a wheelchair and unable to travel to the German capital of Berlin for further diagnosis. Her worsening condition meant that her organs began to fail and she lost mobility in her arms and legs near the end.

She eventually died on July 6. Sadly, her family had already raised the necessary money for treatment. Victoria's trainer and former dancesport world champion Arsen Agamalyan shared a video of the teenager
