He was finally able to return home in April last year and Kate has allowed cameras into her home for a new ITV documentary. Caring for Derek, which will air on ITV tonight (Tuesday), follows Kate's 2021 documentary, Finding Derek, which was filmed before he returned to the family home with Kate and their two children - Darcey and Billy. Kate has now revealed that Derek embarked on a secret journey to Mexico to take part in a ground-breaking medical trial. The Good Morning Britain host told The Sun that the trip took weeks of planning and said her husband of 16 years was "excited" to learn about the opportunity. "He is just so desperate to get better," she said. "He will do anything he can to make that happen. "I think actually there’s a huge amount of hope for him to improve.
I think the treatment could be positive. I want to be slightly careful about saying too much, because I’m aware everybody will go, 'What is the trial?' "And I don’t want to start something, offering up false hope to others who might be in a similar position."
