As little as 40% of eligible primary school pupils returned to the classroom today. The Association of School and College Leaders said that in schools that are open, between 40 and 70% returned today.
That means that of the two million kids in reception, Year 1 and Year 6 who were eligible to go back to school today, as few of 800,000 may actually have done so.
The lack of willing pupils may be due to uneasy parents unable to trust the Government's assurances that it is safe for their children to return.
