Bafta announces ‘temporary changes’ to film eligibility rules as 2021 ceremony is pushed back two months

The British Academy Film Awards has announced ‘temporary changes’ to its film eligibility rules after pushing back the 2021 ceremony by two months.The awards show was due to take place in London in 14 February 2021 but the ongoing coronavirus pandemic forced Bafta to push it back to 11 April, after the Academy Awards was postponed until later that month.Due to cinemas being closed amid lockdowns around the world, films released on streaming platforms will now be eligible for awards at next year’s ceremony.Rule changes have been implemented ‘to ensure that titles which had an intended theatrical release are not penalised due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on cinemas,’ Bafta stated.Bafta Film Committee chairman Marc Samuelson.
