Between 30 and 50 people gathered at Alexandra Park, in Moss Side, on Sunday afternoon (March 21). The event - which police say is linked to the national 'Stand in the Park' movement - began at midday and prompted numerous calls to police from ‘alarmed’ members of the public.
Officers attended and many of the demonstrators left, but some became confrontational when officers asked them to disperse, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) say.
