Charles Ingram
Charles William Ingram (born 6 August 1963) is an English novelist, computer repairman, and former British Army major who became known for being accused and convicted of cheating on the television game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? in 2001, after winning the maximum prize of one million pounds. Following a lengthy trial at Southwark Crown Court, he was convicted on a single count of procuring the execution of a valuable security by deception. He was convicted of an unrelated insurance fraud in 2003, and ordered to resign his commission as a major by the Army Board.

Charles Ingram became a household name 19 years ago, when he, wife Diana, and accomplice Tecwen Whittock, allegedly tried to scam quiz show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

by coughing on the right answer. They've denied the allegations, but Charles and Diana were found guilty of "procuring the execution of a valuable security by deception", received 18 month sentences each, suspended for two years, and ordered to be a whopping 15 grand each.

This was on top of the legal fees - amounting to £115,000. The scam has been brought back into the spotlight with ITV's Quiz, in which Charles and Diana are portrayed by Matthew MacFadyen and Sian Clifford.
