Charles Ingram
Charles William Ingram (born 6 August 1963) is an English novelist, computer repairman, and former British Army major who became known for being accused and convicted of cheating on the television game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? in 2001, after winning the maximum prize of one million pounds. Following a lengthy trial at Southwark Crown Court, he was convicted on a single count of procuring the execution of a valuable security by deception. He was convicted of an unrelated insurance fraud in 2003, and ordered to resign his commission as a major by the Army Board.

THE creator of the Who Wants to be a Millionaire? cheating drama is planning a sequel. James Graham, who wrote this week’s ITV hit Quiz, says he wants to look at the life of Charles and Diana Ingram after their 2003 fraud conviction.

Charles was later done for insurance fraud, had a stab at reality TV and sliced three toes off with a lawnmower. The Ingrams, who were convicted of a coughing plot to bag a £1million in 2001, are said to be planning an appeal in the wake of James’s three-parter.

He said: “It may go back to court, in which case episode four will be coming to you soon. “It would be a ‘20 years later’ story, looking at what’s happened to that family in the intervening period.” He added: “As someone who has been fixated on this.
