Charles Ingram
Charles William Ingram (born 6 August 1963) is an English novelist, computer repairman, and former British Army major who became known for being accused and convicted of cheating on the television game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? in 2001, after winning the maximum prize of one million pounds. Following a lengthy trial at Southwark Crown Court, he was convicted on a single count of procuring the execution of a valuable security by deception. He was convicted of an unrelated insurance fraud in 2003, and ordered to resign his commission as a major by the Army Board.

QUIZ, ITV’s hit adaptation of the “coughing major” scandal left many viewers wondering if Charles Ingram might have been innocent after all . . .

but not Jeremy Clarkson. The drama has divided the nation but the current host of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? has no doubts that the former contestant conned his way to the £1million jackpot back in 2001.

In a YouTube Live clip on his DriveTribe channel, Jeremy was asked if he had tuned in — and for his verdict on Ingram. The Sun columnist and host of The Grand Tour said: “I love Quiz.

Guilty as sin, just so you know. Guilty.” He went on to praise Helen McCrory's performance as Ingram’s lawyer in the drama’s tense courtroom scenes.
