Charles Ingram
Charles William Ingram (born 6 August 1963) is an English novelist, computer repairman, and former British Army major who became known for being accused and convicted of cheating on the television game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? in 2001, after winning the maximum prize of one million pounds. Following a lengthy trial at Southwark Crown Court, he was convicted on a single count of procuring the execution of a valuable security by deception. He was convicted of an unrelated insurance fraud in 2003, and ordered to resign his commission as a major by the Army Board.

Who Wants to be a Millionaire creator slams ‘cheating’ Major Charles Ingram after ITV’s Quiz casts doubt on guilt

THE  creator of Who Wants to be a Millionaire? has launched a furious rant at Coughing Major Charles Ingram and insisted: “He was a cheat.” More than six million watched Wednesday’s finale of the ITV drama Quiz, which examined how Ingram cheated his way to the jackpot in 2001.

But the show cast doubt on whether or not Ingram, wife Diana and accomplice Tecwen Whittock cheated. Producer David Briggs,  71 — played in the show by Elliot Levey —  said: “What I’d say to anyone uncertain of their guilt now is simple — go back and watch the programme. “I was there in the studio on the night it happened, and the evidence is compelling. “I’m very protective of Millionaire.
