University of Manchester introduce 'voluntary' pay cuts, redundancy and unpaid leave as part of coronavirus cost saving measures

The University of Manchester have introduced a series of 'voluntary' cost-saving measures which staff can opt into, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

In a notice on the university website, staff were informed they could choose to take voluntary redundancy, salary reductions and unpaid leave.

It comes after Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell, announced the university had been faced by "serious" financial implications due to COVID-19.

The university said that following discussions with relevant trade unions, a number of optional measures have been introduced to help mitigate further action in the future.
