Heavy rain, brisk winds and thick cloud are set to leave Britain buckling before temperatures soar as high as 26C. In an encore appearance from the summer before the UK submits to the full throes of autumn, Tuesday will see some impressive highs for September.
A 600-mile "subtropical swell" sweeping in across the Atlantic will make the UK as warm as parts of Spain. But before that there's persistent downpours and 40mph winds to contend with today.
