The last official day of summer in the Northern Hemisphere is set to see highs of 26C in Britain before plummeting temperatures bring a major chill.
Frost is even expected to make an appearance in the coming days as autumn takes centre stage and the UK drops to below the seasonal average.
By Friday, parts of the country will peak at just 9C, while the hottest region - the southeast - won't go any higher than 14C, according to weather charts.
An ominous new weather front brought a milder feel and downpours overnight, before "the last of the warm days for England and Wales", warns BBC forecaster Stav Danaos.
