Labour has accused ministers of breaching international rules over the Government's badger cull, we can reveal. The party has backed a formal complaint to a powerful international body charged with overseeing the protection of some species, including badgers.
The Mirror told this week how nearly 65,000 of the creatures face being slaughtered this autumn as the controversial killing programme is extended in England.
The move triggered fury among animal welfare campaigners. Shadow Environment Secretary Luke Pollard wrote to the the Bureau of the Bern Convention claiming the Government was “is in breach of its international obligation to protect vulnerable wildlife”.
