Scotland refuse to play Russia at any level 'should the current circumstances continue' as SFA join boycott

Scotland will not play Russia in any international football fixture while the war on Ukraine continues. The SFA have released a statement following other nations, including England, who have adopted the same stance.

Sporting sanctions against Vladimir Putin's regime are coming thick and fast with FIFA also saying Russia would be banned from hosting any international competition and forced to compete under a new name.

Czech Republic's football association also announced their teams would also refuse to play Russia at any venue in their World Cup play off with Sweden the same with a potential final meeting.

Scotland won’t be sending a squad to face Russia in the UEFA Regions’ Cup, a competition for amateur teams, in August. And the SFA said in a statement: ”Should the current circumstances continue, we will not sanction the nomination of a team to participate in our scheduled UEFA Regions Cup fixture against Russia, due to be played in August."This will remain our position should any other fixtures arise at any level of international football."Hampden supremo Rod Petrie has also written to the Ukraine FA offering help with preparations for their World Cup play off meeting in Glasgow next month.
