Terrified resident hurled pets out of window as blaze ripped through home

Residents on a street fled their homes in fear after a major house fire resulted in an explosion. Emergency services rushed to the scene after the blaze broke out.

Crews from the fire and rescue service quickly managed to get the flames under control.Humberside Police confirmed that there were no reports of anyone being injured at the Hull property, although one resident near to the home said that she was taking herself to A&E after inhaling smoke while running back inside to rescue her pets, Hull Live reports.

Ellie Bell, 23, said that she could barely see for the thick black smoke pouring out onto the street, and rushed to grab her dogs and cats.Ellie then ran back inside to save her pet gerbils, hurling them out of a window into her garden, moments before an explosion.

The gerbils survived the ordeal.It's understood nobody was in the house at the time of the fire. Video taken by onlookers shows the moment an explosion could be heard as fire and smoke billow from the terrace.Ellie told Hull Live she had seen smoke from her bedroom window and fire outside before "running for her life", then going back to rescue her gerbils.
