England battled Australia at Lord’s, Nicholls stormed the turf and completed naked cartwheels as she was plastered across front pages of British tabloids, as well as many international newspapers.
Nicholls was just 19 years of age at the time, and she went on to become a successful musician after her streak - which was hailed as a feminist action.
She has since released three critically acclaimed albums: Brief Strop (1999), Wake (2002) and Songs From the Bardo (2009).Each album is filled with songs of desire and yearning, as well as stirring feminist fantasies, testimonies to the failure of war, commentaries on the ridiculousness of worldwide chest-beating, and anthems to the freedom gained if we just rewrote our collective mythology.
They also embody the personal journey to rewrite her own story, which perhaps began when she took to the field during that Ashes series in 1989.Her debut album made it to the US college Top Ten Billboard chart in 2000.
