Police discovered the break-in on St Ann Street in Manchester city centre at around 4.40am this morning (Wednesday). The front window of the jewellers had been smashed in with a sledgehammer, a spokesperson for GMP said.
The burglars also stole watches worth tens of thousands of pounds. No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing. The name of the jewellers has not been confirmed by GMP, but pictures taken this morning showed a police cordon in place around the Ernest Jones store near St Ann's Square.
