Drink-driver who ran over cyclist, 10, fled scene with bike still trapped under car

Keith Vernon, 76, from Sussex, has been jailed for two and a half years after pleading guilty to drink driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene.

Vernon was on his way home from the pub in West Chiltington when he ploughed into the child in his black Renault Twingo at around 10.20pm on October 6.

The boy, who was cycling with his dad and another adult, was launched over his handlebars and into the road, where Vernon then ran his car over him.
