Police were called to the smash on the motorway, close to junction 2 for Sharston, overnight. Officers say a Ford Fiesta had lost control before colliding with a barrier and striking the central reservation.
The car vehicle burst into flames on impact. The driver managed to flee the burning vehicle and was left with only minor injuries.
He was arrested by police and failed a breath test in custody. No other vehicles were involved in the crash and no one else was involved.
