Cops at drought-hit Vegas lake expect more bodies as 'mafia skeleton' found in barrel
cops at a drought-hit lake have said that they expect to find more bodies after a human skeleton was found inside a barrel.Rapidly falling water levels at Lake Mead near Las Vegas have revealed multiple human remains over recent days, with homicide detectives now exploring whether violent 1970s gangsters could be to blame. The shocking discovery of a skeleton inside a metal barrel has sparked an underwater hunt for further bodies, with more turning up since.Speaking to local media at the time, homicide detective Lt. Ray Spencer from Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department stated they were exploring the likelihood that the latest body was a victim murdered between the mid 1970s and the early 1980s, as the shoes they were wearing had been made in that period. He added that examinations of the body showed that he had been shot, and that a connection to the mafia was being investigated.Lt Spencer said there was "a very good chance as the water level drops that we are going to find additional human remains." Rangers from the National Park Service (NPS) then received a report from a witness at around 2pm on Saturday (May 7) of further human remains.Authorities say that the investigation into the new body is ongoing, while The Clark County Medical Examiner has not yet given the cause of death.
