The Mayor of London has pleaded with the public to stay at home to keep safe as anti-racism and far-right groups both plan protests in the capital this weekend.

Sadiq Khan said he is "extremely concerned" that further protests in London, particularly by extreme far-right groups which "advocate hatred and division", could lead to violence and disorder.

He also said that protests across the world have resulted in new cases of coronavirus and said he fears the same could happen in London.

The mayor also confirmed that he is working with police to ensure that monuments in London, including the Cenotaph and a statue of Winston Churchill, are protected this weekend as some started to be boarded up overnight.
