Roy Keane tried to woo ex-Spurs star Mido over Pizza Express - but it backfired

Tottenham star Mido was once wanted by Roy Keane who was in charge of Sunderland, but a lunch at Pizza Express couldn't seal the deal.During Keane's first managerial spell, he wanted to sign Mido to lead the line at Sunderland and arranged to meet with the Egyptian.

The Irishman was appointed after Sunderland were promoted back into the Premier League after winning the Championship, and wasn't happy with the options he currently had at the Stadium of Light.So Keane took Mido for lunch in an attempt to lure him to Sunderland, after a poor season at Tottenham during the 2006/07 campaign.

However, it backfired and Keane instead settled for Michael Chopra, Kenwyne Jones and veteran Andy Cole.The story of Keane's attempt to sign Mido at Pizza Express was told on talkSport by the Egyptian, who said: My agent Mino Raiola said, ‘Mido, Roy Keane wants to have lunch with you and show you the training ground’.
