Roman Abramovich has £5bn more in assets frozen as sanctions keep biting Chelsea owner

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has had $7billion (£5.3million) worth of assets frozen by the Parish of Jersey, a UK Crown Dependency.A statement from the Jersey Law Officers’ Department on Wednesday read: “Search warrants were executed by the States of Jersey Police on Tuesday 12 April 2022 at premises in Jersey suspected to be connected to the business activities of Roman Abramovich.“The Royal Court also imposed a formal freezing order on 12 April, known as a saisie judiciaire, over assets understood to be valued in excess of $7billion which are suspected to be connected to Mr Abramovich and which are either located in Jersey or owned by Jersey incorporated entities.”Located in the English Channel, Jersey is the largest of the Channel Islands and a self-governing UK Crown Dependancy.

As a result, when Abramovich's assets were frozen by the UK Government last month, his assets in Jersey were not.Daily Star Sport has reached out to Chelsea for comment regarding the latest news of Abramovich's frozen assets.Prior to sanctions being announced against Abramovich by the UK Government, the Russian had announced his intention to sell Chelsea.Abramovich had already released a statement saying he was ready to hand over the 'stewardship' of the club over to the trustees of the side.

The Russian was handed sanctions from the UK Government and the EU following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February - but there is no indication had a hand in the events.
