Chancellor Rishi Sunak has been slammed for jetting out to California while hospitality businesses face the prospect of "financial ruin", following advice to minimise social contact over Christmas.
Mr Sunak is in the US this week on a "long planned business trip", but MPs have today demanded he fly back to outline how pubs, restaurants and other hospitality businesses - who face the prospect of mass cancellations - will be supported.
It comes after Chief Medical Officer Professor Chris Whitty told the public to prioritise events that “really matter to them” over the festive period, in an effort to curb the spread of the Omicron variant of Covid-19.
