Jaden Thompson The complete program for the 39th Santa Barbara International Film Festival has been announced. Taking place from Feb. 7-17, the festival will open with the world premiere of the documentary “Madu,” directed by Matt Ogens and Joel ‘Kachi Benson.

Thomas Lennon “Reno 911!” star Thomas Lennon worked closely with Matthew Perry on the CBS remake of “The Odd Couple,” which aired for three seasons and 38 episodes from 2015 and 2017. Perry developed and executive produced the show (with Danny Jacobson and Joe Keenan) and starred as Oscar Madison, opposite Lennon as Felix Unger. Lindsay Sloane, Yvette Nicole Brown and Wendell Pierce also starred in the series, based of course on the Neil Simon play (later made famous as a TV sitcom in the 1970s). It was a reunion for Lennon and Perry, who also worked together on the 2009 film “17 Again.” In that comedy, Perry and Lennon play best friends. Variety asked Lennon to offer his memories of working with Perry over the years; below, he shares this tribute. Matthew Perry told me a lot of stories—none of which can be printed in Variety.

The students of Pacific Coast Academy are back in the first trailer for “Zoey 102,” Paramount+’s sequel film to the Nickelodeon series “Zoey 101.” The original series followed the students at PCA, a distinguished school in Malibu. “Zoey 101” highlighted the female characters as they were the first class to grace the boarding school that used to be an all-boys academy. “Zoey 102” reunites its original characters in the present day, long removed from their adolescent years at PCA. In true revival fashion, Zoey Brooks gets together with the rest of her classmates to attend Quinn and Logan’s wedding, bringing her group of friends back together once more. 

William Earl Variety will return in-person with its TV FYC Fest on June 7 in L.A., featuring HBO/Max Chief Casey Bloys, Kerry Washington, Elle Fanning, Janelle James, Gina Rodriguez and Weird Al Yankovic. Fanning (“The Great”), James (“Abbott Elementary”), Rodriguez (“Not Dead Yet”) and Washington (“UnPrisoned”) will participate in a roundtable celebrating Disney’s TV female comedy standouts. Katie Reul editor Sara Waisglass, Jonathan Kite and Thomas Lennon will star in an upcoming holiday feature from DeVan Clan Productions, entitled “Needle Little Christmas.” The Christmas tale centers around kindred spirits Maddie, Elizabeth and Trevor. When Maddie passes away before the holiday season in a sudden accident, she is given a second chance at life to convince Elizabeth and Trevor that magic exists. The one problem? To do so, Maddie’s spirit is transferred into her family’s Christmas tree. Lennon will portray Perry, an invasive neighbor with Grinch-like reservations about getting into the Christmas cheer. Maddie must thwart off Perry while reminding her family and friends of the power of love before the last needle of the tree drops, thereby erasing her from existence.

Audible is bringing the event back with a modern makeover in a series adapted by Eric Gilliland.In addition to Cumming and Reynolds, the voice cast of A-listers includes John Goodman, Marcia Gay Harden, Rachel Dratch, Catherine Keener, Martha Plimpton, Helen Hunt, Johnny Galecki, Thomas Lennon, Ana Gasteyer and Sarah Vowell.
