Jazz Tangcay Artisans Editor “Avatar: The Way of Water” topped the 21st Annual VES Awards with nine wins, including for photoreal feature. Meanwhile, Guillermo del Toro’s “Pinocchio” was named best animated feature and took home three awards total. On the TV side, Amazon’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” won three awards and was named best photoreal episode. Rian Johnson, Domee Shi, Tig Notaro, Jay Pharoah, Tyler Posey and Randall Park were among the presenters for the night. James Cameron presented the VES Lifetime Achievement award to acclaimed producer Gale Anne Hurd. Former VES executive director Eric Roth received the Board of Directors Award from the current board, which includes Lisa Cooke, current VES Chair; Jim Morris, VES, president of Pixar Animation and founding VES Chair; and former Chairs Jeffrey A. Okun, VES; Mike Chambers, VES; Carl Rosendahl, VES; and Jeff Barnes.

K.J. Yossman “Avatar 2: The Way of Water” star Jamie Flatters looks unrecognizable in stills from his upcoming indie feature “Black Dog,” revealed here exclusively by Variety. Shedding his blue CG ensemble, Flatters, who plays Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington’s eldest Na’avi son in James Cameron’s billion-dollar smash, reverts to type in “Black Dog” as a London teenager taking a road trip up North. Flatters co-wrote the British indie feature with his friend George Jaques (“The Serpent Queen”), who will also direct. “Black Dog” represents both Flatters and Jaques’ feature screenwriting debut.

It pays to be famous. Forbes has just dropped their list of the top 10 highest-paid entertainers in the world in 2022.Music icon Taylor Swift is the only woman on the list and she joins fellow musicians Bad Bunny, Sting, The Rolling Stones and Genesis.The group of high-earners also includes a number of filmmakers and TV creators, like the dynamic duos behind “The Simpsons” and “South Park.”The top earners in 2022 collected about $1.35 billion — just half as much as last year’s list which boasted entertainers such as Kanye “Ye” West, Jay-Z, and Bruce Springsteen.

Forbes has published its annual breakdown of the highest-paid entertainers, revealing that Taylor Swift, The Rolling Stones and Bad Bunny were among the biggest revenue-raisers in 2022.Swift came ninth on the list, totalling $92million in earnings between the release of her ‘Midnights’ album last October and subsequent ticket sales for her upcoming ‘Eras’ tour. It marks her sixth time on the highest-earners list, having previously topped it in 2019.

Clayton Davis Senior Awards Editor Tom Cruise stole the show at the 95th Oscars luncheon, the annual gathering celebrating the nominees for the year’s Academy Awards. At the Beverly Hilton Hotel, the in-person event had opening remarks from Academy president Janet Yang. The roll call of this year’s 182 attendees was read by Devon Franklin, a member of the Board of Governors, who began with Jamie Lee Curtis and ended with Guillermo del Toro. Aside from Yang addressing the Will Smith controversy at the top of the event to the attendees (without saying his name), more than 200 guests gathered to celebrate the cinema’s achievements from 2022. Of them, 182 were official nominees for this year’s ceremony, the largest turnout in history. Some of the notable names missing were best actress nominees Ana de Armas (“Blonde”) and Andrea Riseborough (“To Leslie”), supporting actor Barry Keoghan (“The Banshees of Inisherin”), producer James Cameron (“Avatar: The Way of Water”) and original song contenders Rihanna (“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”), Lady Gaga (“Top Gun: Maverick”) and David Byrne (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”).

Kate Winslet is sharing what it was really like filming sex scenes in "Revolutionary Road" with Leonardo DiCaprio. The co-stars shot to fame after collaborating on James Cameron's "Titanic" in 1997. Winslet and DiCaprio reunited in 2008 to star in "Revolutionary Road," which was directed by the actress' then husband, Sam Mendes.

It will overtake Titanic, it’s just a matter of when.
