James Cameron films Titanic and Avatar: The Way Of Water vying for third highest grossing film

Director James Cameron is competing against himself at the top of the list of highest grossing films of all time.Titanic (1997), which had a secure hold on number three, was overtaken this weekend by Avatar: The Way Of The Water (2022) after its dramatic rise up the box office charts, according to TMZ.But in the wake of the recent re-release of Titanic in theaters, the iconic romance and disaster film reclaimed the third position, pushing the Avatar sequel back to number four.Despite all the moving and flip-flopping between those two Cameron films, his original Avatar (2009) film still reigns king of the box office with $2.923 billion, which is followed by Avengers: Endgame (2019) in second place at $2.798 billion.After the re-release of Titanic in theaters this weekend in celebration of its 25th anniversary, new ticket sales put it back in third with a gross of $2.217 billion, giving it a small lead over Avatar: The Way Of Water at $2.214 billion.
