Les Miserables legend Martin McCallum has died at the age of 73.

Martin McCallum, a British theatrical producer whose work on more than 500 Broadway and West End shows saw his participation in some of the most successful stage productions in modern theater history, died January 14 in Sydney, Australia. He was 73.

Alarming as this may sound, it’s just part of the oddly arresting dynamics of Janet Planet, the distinctive first produced screenplay by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Annie Baker, making her cinematic directorial debut. This is an off-beat film to say the least, one rippling with modestly turbulent undercurrents that are presented in such a way that make parent-offspring relations at least as amusing as they are serious. Beyond that, there is an unusual dramatic approach at play that partly turns its back on normal verbal interchange, one that embraces out-of-the-blue remarks and sidelong comments at the partial expense of conventional exposition and character development. The result is both disarming and odd, a film both lovely for its observational aptitude and at times mildly annoying in its smarty-pants conversational cleverness. Whatever else you can say, it’s an absolute original.

cause of death for actor Julian Sands, 65, has been deemed “undetermined” five months after he went missing on a California hike. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department explained that the death was ruled “undetermined due to the condition of the body and this is common when dealing with cases of this type,” according to People. The British actor was reported missing by his wife Evgenia Citkowitz after going hiking on a Southern California mountain in January.

The two actors (a real-life married couple) are bringing their relationship comedy “Plaza Suite” to London following a sold-out Broadway run. The West End transfer of Neil Simon’s play is directed by Tony Awardwinner John Benjamin Hickey. It will play a strictly limited season at the Savoy Theatre from Jan. 15 to March 31 with tickets on sale in September. In an interesting twist, the play, which unfolds in one of the most famous hotels in the world, will be remounted in a theater that is part of an equally iconic hotel. The production marks Broderick’s return to the West End stage following his run in 2019’s “The Starry Messenger.” “Plaza Suite” is Parker’s West End debut. Both stars are known for their film and television work — he for “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and “Glory,” she for “Sex and the City.” However, they also frequently appear on stage. Broderick won a Tony for “Brighton Beach Memoirs” and “How to Succeed in Business…” and appeared in “The Producers.” Parker made herBroadway debut in 1976 in “The Innocents”directed by Harold Pinter, and appeared in “Annie,” “How to Succeed in Business…” and“Once Upon a Mattress.”

Succession star Jeremy Strong has revealed his 10 favourite books.The actor, who plays Kendall Roy in the HBO satirical drama, recently met with GQ to take part in their 10 Things I Can’t Live Without series.Far exceeding the 10-item limit, Strong brought along a wide selection of trinkets and memorabilia from his career, including props from Succession, Molly’s Game, The Big Short and a number of plays.Strong then unveiled a pile of 10 books, saying: “I mean this is like a five-house conversation right here. James Norton has been set to lead the West End stage adaptation of Hanya Yanagihara’s bestselling novel A Little Life. Shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 2015, the emotional story follows four college friends in New York City. Ivo van Hove (Network, Hedda Gabler) is directing the 12-week run at the Harold Pinter Theatre which begins on March 25.
