Matt Minton mminton@variety.com When singer-songwriter Mike Hadreas sits down with his therapist, he admits that he often doesn’t know where to begin with his feelings — which might not be surprising for an artist who, over the course of six albums and 15 years, has worked primarily by himself. But for his latest effort, “Glory,” Hadreas — known in the music world as Perfume Genius — opened up his voice and emotions, as well as his recording process, in what has been described as his first “band” album, featuring artists like Aldous Harding alongside his longtime collaborators Blake Mills and Alan Wyffels. “I don’t know if I consciously did it, but it made sense that building the songs felt more collaborative in ways they hadn’t been in the last few records,” Hadreas tells Variety.

Perfume Genius has shared a new single featuring Aldous Harding – listen to ‘No Front Teeth’ below.The collaborative song serves as the second preview of the singer-songwriter’s seventh album ‘Glory’, which is due for release on March 28 via Matador (pre-order/pre-save here).Following on from lead single ‘It’s A Mirror’, the latest track from Perfume Genius (real name Mike Hadreas) begins with a stripped-back, acoustic guitar-driven verse, ahead of haunting and ethereal vocals from Harding.“Better days/ Nothing touch me/ Light it breaks on the wings of a dove/ Better days/ Nothing touch me/ Let it take everything that I love,” sings the New Zealand folk artist. ‘No Front Teeth’ then breaks out into a raw and rocky instrumental.“No front teeth/ Where they all used to go/ Sewn in my pocket lining/ Suddenly/ When the cover is blown/ Can I just rest beside it,” Hadreas adds in the single, which is bolstered by time changes throughout.The song is accompanied by an official music video, directed by Cody Critcheloe, who helmed Perfume Genius’ ‘Queen’ video.Per a press release, the surreal ‘No Front Teeth’ visuals represent a “fever dream” that is “unhinged, sexually charged, hilarious and riveting, leaving the viewer questioning what is real and what is an aberration”.The clip stars Hadreas and Harding, alongside Perfume Genius bandmember and co-writer Alan Wyffels. Aldous Harding has announced a return to Australia as part of her world tour in support of her latest studio album, ‘Warm Chris’.The shows, announced today (May 19), will mark Harding’s first tour of Australia in nearly three years. The New Zealand-born and Wales-based singer-songwriter was one of the very last international artists to perform in Australia prior to the COVID-19 lockdowns, in late February and early March 2020.Harding will perform four shows while in Australia over mid-to-late October.

Øya Festival has confirmed its full line-up for 2022, with the likes of H.E.R. and Little Simz joining the bill.The Norwegian festival will return to Oslo’s Tøyenparken from August 9-13 this year, with Gorillaz, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and Florence + The Machine set to headline.Øya has now confirmed the final names on the line-up (which is split 50/50 between male and female artists) for their 2022 festival, with H.E.R., Little Simz, Fred Again.., Perfume Genius and Freddie Gibbs among the latest additions.Remi Wolf, Aldous Harding, Kings Of Convenience, Jenny Hval and CMAT are also set to perform at Øya in August.Day tickets for Øya Festival are on sale now, with weekend passes sold out.

Aldous Harding announced her fourth studio album, Warm Chris, in January with its slippery lead single, "Lawn." Where that song shuffles sidelong in and out of focus, its new follow-up, "Fever," walks a straight line, the New Zealand singer-songwriter making direct eye contact with her listener (though the two tracks' respective press image tell the opposite story). "Fever, when we met at hotel reception / 'Never, have I been so tired,' you said / You bet, guess we did what the other expected," she begins over a no-nonsense, four-chord piano progression and a stretchy bass line.
