Our Yorkshire Farm, has spoken about an incident that left the entire family without any water. Ravenseat is a 2,000 acre farm in Yorkshire where the Owen family reside, amongst an array of farm animals. Our Yorkshire Farm follows the Yorkshire Shepherdess, her husband and their nine children as they navigate the ups and downs of life in the remote land.Amanda often shares the trials and tribulations that the family face, but she wrote about one huge problem that put the entire family’s hygiene at risk in her most recent book. The family were forced to brush their teeth using river water after a ‘big problem’ occured on their farm as Amanda said: “We had another big problem, no running water in the farmhouse.”"I've got a weather station in the farmyard and could see that the temperature had dropped to -12C during the night.

Our water system is piped down from a natural spring further up the moor and we worried that the water in the pipes would freeze."Amongst her large family, Amanda has to tend to 1000 sheep, 40 cows, six dogs and four horses.

After they had sorted out the pipe problem, they were woken up at 4am by one of their livestock, and upon investigation realised that the noise was coming from a cow.“Cows drink copious amounts of water, especially when they are producing milk for suckling calves, so [Clive] spent a good hour stomping around in the dark, trying to work out exactly where the problem lay,” she said. The mother of nine went on: "We are fortunate to have a supply of our own spring water, but when it ceases flowing it is our responsibility to rectify any issues.
