Michael Winterbottom has temporarily stepped back as director on his COVID-19 TV drama This Sceptered Isle due to ill health, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
While THR understands that Winterbottom, best known for such films as 24 Hour Party People and TV shows, including The Trip, is recovering well, he is now working remotely as he recuperates, with Julian Jarrold, the British director who previously worked with Winterbottom's Revolution Films on the Red Riding trilogy, having stepped in.
Jarrold, who recently directed episodes of The Crown, is set to oversee the current block of episodes, with the plan for Winterbottom to return to direct the next block.
