ITV's Richard Madeley has hit back at criticism of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, suggesting that Princess Diana also had extra-marital affairs.

Camilla married Prince Charles in 2005, and the pair had been dating while the now-Duchess was married to British Army Officer Andrew Parker Bowles.

Diana passed away in 1997, but in an explosive interview with the BBC's Martin Bashir in 1995, she acknowledged that she had been aware of her husband’s infidelity.

This had led to criticism of Camilla, but on the day marking 70 years on the throne, the Queen recently announced that she wants Camilla to take on the role of Queen Consort when Charles becomes King.Despite this, speaking on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, royal commentator Jack Royston suggested that the public did not agree with the Queen’s decision to allow Camilla to take on the role of Queen Consort.“The public don’t want it, the numbers are really clear, they might be less forceful in their opinion now than they were in the past, but 44% of people want Camilla to be Princess Consort rather than Queen Consort, and 14% of people want her to be Queen Consort,” he claimed.The royal commentator went on to point out that when Charles becomes King, he will need to forge a strong relationship with the public.“One big question mark about Charles has always been whether he has this close relationship with the public, and whether he has the Queen’s natural instinct for where public interest lies,” he added.Richard Madeley interjected and brought in royal biographer Angela Levin, asking her: “Why is it do you think that people have that sort of one-sided memory of what happened all those years ago? “Because let’s be honest, Diana’s hands weren’t clean in terms of having.
