Greater Manchester Police (GMP) chief Ian Hopkins has joined his counterparts at the Merseyside, Cheshire, Lancashire and Cumbia forces in signing the letter ahead of the implementation of new nationwide restrictions, which are set to come into force on Thursday.
The new rules state you "must not leave or be outside of your home except for specific purposes" such as work, education or shopping essentials.If approved by parliament later today the rules will be underpinned by law with breaches punishable by fines as has been the case over the last seven months.Today the five chiefs said they had "taken a very measured approach to enforcement from the start of the pandemic" with fines only being handed out as a "last resort."However they say.
