Naman Ramachandran BAFTA has tapped multi-hyphenate talent Alan Cumming to host the 2025 BAFTA Television Awards. Cumming’s decorated career spans stage and screen, from his Tony and Olivier award-winning turn in “Cabaret” to his Golden Globe-winning and Emmy-recognized performance in “The Good Wife,” where he also served as an executive producer.

The British Academy revealed its new rules for the 2024 awards on Wednesday, with stricter regulations around campaigning — particularly in relation to social media — and a new bullying and harassment policy for U.K.-based productions. Speaking to Variety, BAFTA also revealed that it’s debating changes for the 2025 awards, for which the eligibility period begins in January.

The venue is located in the heart of London on the River Thames, close to landmarks including Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, the National Theatre, BFI and the London Eye. In recent years, the Royal Festival Hall has become the flagship venue for red carpet galas at the BFI London Film Festival. “The move will see BAFTA program its most ambitious and accessible night yet, bolstered by a refreshed production and format,” the organization said.

BAFTA Awards executives have made their stance clear on what would have happened to Will Smith had he hit Chris Rock during their awards show instead.

But if the altercation that still has everyone talking happened in England at the BAFTAs, Smith would have immediately been escorted out of the building.Executives from British Academy of Film and Television Arts discussed with The Hollywood Reporter their thoughts on the viral moment.“They would be removed from the building,” said Sara Putt, chair of BAFTA’s television committee said, after she was asked what BAFTA would do in a similar circumstance.Smith won later that same night the Academy Award for Best Actor for his work in the drama “King Ricard.” He was even given a standing ovation and his speech ran for almost five minutes.Putt also stated that said individual would not be able to stay and collect any awards.
