Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali is targeting a revamped 30-race calendar in the not-so-distant future that would include a Grand Prix in Las Vegas and Africa.Following Sunday's curtain-raiser in Bahrain, the 2022 season is set to be the most demanding campaign in F1 history with a total of 23 races before November's finale in Abu Dhabi.
There is space for one additional increase though due to the Concorde Agreement, but Domenicali has higher ambitions than a 24-race calendar.He told Sky Sports: "I think there is potential to go to 24.
I would say there is potential to go to 30! In terms of the interest, we see all around the world."It is up to us to try to find the right balance considering what are the venues which would like to be in F1, what are the historical values we need to see on the calendar."Already operating a jam-packed F1 schedule, the likelihood is that the proposal to increase to a 30-race calendar would be met with severe opposition.
Though that doesn't seem to have deterred Domenicali who is targeting a rapid geographical expansion.He added: "On top of America, on top of China, I think there is a potential also to be in Africa soon.
