Everton star and Ukraine international Vitalii Mykolenko has posted an emotional message about his parents on Instagram following Russia's invasion of his homeland.

The star has taken to social media twice in the 24 hours to express his sorrow and desperation at the situation in Ukraine after Russian president Vladimir Putin announced that a military operation had begun.In a post on Thursday afternoon, Mykolenko revealed the details of a desperate conversation with his parents, who are still in the country, which is under threat from all sides."I want the whole world to know that the Russian army is now killing civilians in all cities of Independent Ukraine," Mykolenko wrote on Instagram. "Russian media writes that they are defending Donetsk and Luhansk, but this is not true!!!!

It’s hard to hear the anxious voice of my parents who are looking for an opportunity to protect themselves and help others and I can not help my parents."I ask the whole world to help my homeland.

I am proud to be Ukrainian. Glory to Ukraine."Mykolenko, 22, only joined the Toffees from Dynamo Kyiv in the January transfer window, signing a four-and-a-half year deal with the Merseyside club.
