Vladimir Putin impersonator has bundled a terrified Volodymyr Zelensky lookalike out of war-torn Ukraine — with the help of a Kim Jong-un doppelgänger.

The Putin lookalike, Slawek Sobala from Poland, enlisted the help of Howard X, an impersonator of the North Korean despot, to take Umid Isabaev from Kyiv into Poland. The Zelensky lookalike had been working and living in Ukraine before Russia invaded, leaving him fearing for his safety.

Umid, from Uzbekistan, was on the metro in Russia in 2019 when someone took a photo of him and it went viral, starting his career as a Zelensky lookalike.

Howard X, the Kim Jong-un impersonator, reached out to Slawek because he knew Umid was trapped in Kyiv. Through contacts in the Ukrainian capital, Slawek enlisted a member of the Ukrainian resistance to carry out Umid’s extraction, paying somewhere between €1500 (£1260) and €2000 (£1680) to do so.On March 8 Umid fled to a safe house more than 100km from his Kyiv apartment before laying low for a couple of days, then continuing his journey by car to the Shehyni border checkpoint in Lviv Oblast. Here, he crossed over to Poland at around 7:45am on March 12 alongside reams of other refugees.Howard X told the Daily Star: "When the war started, I thought of Umid because I know he's living in Ukraine. "I got in touch with him and told him 'you need to get out of here' because who knows what will happen if Russia gets hold of a Zelensky double."Umid was first employed by a Russian film producer for two years starting in 2019.
