Vladimir Putin's attempt at ice hockey in 2019 provides an allegory for the current situation in Ukraine. Because while the Russian President got what he wanted initially during his foray on the ice, he soon fell flat on his face - literally.
Putin, who on Thursday launched an invasion of neighbouring Ukraine, is a big lover of sports and has regularly taken part in horse back riding and Judo during his political career.
But three years ago, he tried his hand at ice hockey, competing in an event held by the Night Hockey League in the southern city of Sochi.
The match finished 13-9 to the President's side, with the man described by Boris Johnson as a "dictator" scoring eight goals in the convincing victory.
