Dementia risk may be lowered by eating one fruit, according to study

Dementia affects thousands of people living in the UK, but eating more of one fruit could ward off the degenerative condition.Its debilitating symptoms include memory loss, confusion, poor judgement and it can be heart breaking to see a loved one suffer from it.

The umbrella term refers to a group of brain disorders, with Alzheimer's disease being the most common.Experts recently shared the popular foods that could increase the risk of dementia if eaten in high volumes, but a study has also found evidence that eating blueberries could prevent middle-aged people from developing it in later life.

Over 900,000 people are living with dementia in the UK and numbers are predicted to keep rising over the next 50 years.Scientists at the University of Cincinnati in the United States set out to examine the benefits of the superfood on cognitive brain health in younger people after successful results on older age groups.

Their findings could play a crucial role in future treatments of dementia disorders.Professor Robert Krikorian at the University of Cincinnati said: "We had observed cognitive benefits with blueberries in prior studies with older adults and thought they might be effective in younger individuals with insulin resistance.
